This kind of marble has been used extensively in architectural applications, including columns, walls and pavements.Arabescato is a marble that displays warm, neutral coloring with light browns and warm beiges which are subtly contrasted by delicate veins of ivory and beige. The stone has a strong linear pattern that combines smooth, barely discernible veining with veining in changeable directions to create bold, dramatic stripes reminiscent of what you might see in opulent Persian carpets.

What Drives the Price of Arabescato Marble

"Arabescato" is not one stone. It is a trade name for a family of veined white marbles from the Apuan Alps above Carrara in northern Tuscany, and the price you are quoted depends far more on which quarry the block came from than on the name printed on the invoice. Four sub-varieties dominate the export trade:

• Arabescato Corchia — quarried at Corchia / Stazzema in Lucca province. A heavily brecciated marble with rounded, grey-blue vein structures on a bright, near-milky ground. Corchia blocks are graded down as yellow content rises, which is the single most common reason a Corchia lot is discounted. Lower slab yield pushes the price up.
• Arabescato Vagli — quarried around Vagli di Sotto, Lucca. Straighter, darker grey veining with hints of green on an ivory-to-cool-white ground. More consistent block to block, and the variety most buyers specify for long floor and wall runs.
• Arabescato Cervaiole — a third Apuan sub-variety, exported less often and correspondingly harder to source in volume.
• Arabescato Orobico — not from Carrara at all. Extracted at the Cornalita quarry in Camerata Cornello, Brembo Valley (Lombardy). The base ranges from light to dark grey and occasionally red, with white, gold and pink veining in a swirl pattern. It behaves like a different stone and should be quoted as one.

Where sources disagree. Supplier guides conflict on the veining character of Corchia and Vagli. Two describe Corchia as bold, rounded and "egg-like" with Vagli softer and more spaced out; two others describe Corchia as the softer, cloud-like stone and Vagli as the bold, linear one. We could not reconcile the two accounts — the disagreement is probably a function of which quarry face each writer last saw. Treat any description that does not come with photographs of the actual block as unreliable.

The practical consequence for a buyer: on any order above roughly 50 m² of book-matched or vein-matched panels, specify same-block or same-quarry-run sourcing in the RFQ. Arabescato slab sets are polished in sequential A/B mirror faces and shipped in A-frame bundles. If a set is split across two blocks, the mirror symmetry breaks visibly at the seam — and no amount of on-site skill will hide it. Arabescato Marble Price Ranges — and What "Arabescato" Actually Costs

Read the bottom two rows together and the real point emerges: a large share of what ships from China under the name "Arabescato" is Chinese-quarried or Chinese-processed white marble. That is not automatically a problem — Chinese white marbles are legitimate, consistent materials. It becomes a problem when they are priced as Italian.

"Arabescato" is a trade name, not a protected geographical indication. Ask for the quarry name and its location in Italy, the block number, and the customs entry document showing the material entered from Italy. A supplier who cannot produce a quarry certificate and block numbers cannot substantiate Italian origin, however convincing the slab looks. The reverse audit is equally useful: uniform backgrounds and veining that repeats in an obvious pattern across pieces are the usual visual tells of a stone sold under a name it has no claim to. Why Arabescato Costs More to Process Than Other White Marbles

Arabescato is a brecciated marble. Its dark veins are not decorative lines drawn on a uniform stone — they are geological shear zones, healed fractures where the rock broke and re-cemented. That single fact drives both its price and its behaviour in the shop.

• Slabs are more fragile than uniform marbles. Italian factories apply fibreglass mesh backing with epoxy resin and fill open surface veins with colour-matched resin. This is not optional finishing; it is what makes the slab shippable at all.
• The vein line is where failure starts. Shear fractures initiate at veins under vibration — during shipping, during handling, and during CNC machining. Resin injection under pressure is standard practice for stone furniture, cantilevered overhangs and large-format exterior cladding.
• Over-resined slabs fail later, and quietly. Excess resin can mask structural voids and will yellow within roughly 3–5 years under UV exposure. UV inspection at 365 nm is the practical way to detect resin pooling before you accept a lot.
• Fabrication parameters have to change at the vein. Where dense white calcite clast meets softer graphite vein, standard CNC feed rates cause margin blowout and fracture. Reported working parameters are 40–60% of standard feed rate at vein transitions, high spindle RPM, flood coolant, and shallow 3–4 mm step passes.

For the buyer this produces two cost lines that never appear on the slab quotation: a higher wastage factor, because fabricators cut around defects to keep the vein alignment, and a higher chance that replacement slabs are needed mid-project. Finish choice interacts with all of it. Polished amplifies the contrast between white ground and grey vein — and equally amplifies every resin-filled fissure and every patch where the fill colour does not quite match. Honed reduces that contrast and hides small fills far better. On large continuous floors, where a patchy polish becomes obvious under raking light, honed is usually the better specification. How to Inspect an Arabescato Order Before It Ships

1. Approve a documented shade range from production samples, not from a generic catalogue photograph. Arabescato colour and vein density shift by geological layer, and a container assembled from unrelated blocks installs as a patchwork.
2. Require dry-lay photographs — slab by slab, in production order, under natural light — before packing, and make release of the balance payment conditional on them.
3. Inspect at 365 nm for resin pooling and excess fill. Resin that is invisible in daylight shows clearly under UV.
4. Measure. Standard thickness tolerance is ±1 mm and premium is ±0.5 mm. State which applies in the purchase order and attach the tolerance sheet as an annex.
5. Budget 10–15% wastage over the finished area for cuts, sorting and future batch matching. Plan book-matched elevations on usable area, not on the nominal area of the bundle.
6. Record the A/B pairing of book-matched sets before packing and ship each set in a single bundle. A matching vein does not create matching paperwork: replacements always need a fresh evidence trail.
